Tango alternatives for screenshot guides and how-tos

Tango captures your clicks and builds a screenshot guide, and can guide people on screen inside the app. Its free plan is limited to 5 shared workflows, and blur, exports and desktop capture are on Pro. These are the alternatives worth trying.

Updated
The short answer

Scribe is the most direct Tango alternative for written SOPs. Guidie is a free option that adds a narrated video to the written guide. Dubble's free plan has unlimited guides with blur and PDF download, with watermarked screenshots.

Two different jobs: documenting and guiding

Tango does two jobs. It documents a process (a guide with screenshots) and it guides people through the process inside the real app, with on-screen hints. If the second job is what you need, few tools on this page compete: look at Scribe's on-screen walkthroughs or iorad's Live Mode.

If you mostly need the first job, documenting, you have more options, and price becomes the main difference.

The free plan question

Tango's free plan caps you at 5 shared workflows. That's enough to try it, not to document a team's processes. Before you upgrade, it is worth checking whether a free tool covers you:

  • Guidie (free during the beta) records web apps in Chrome and gives you a written guide plus a narrated video for each recording.
  • Dubble's free plan has unlimited guides, blur and PDF download, with watermarked screenshots.

Blur is the feature to test

Whichever tool you try, record a task in a real account and inspect every screenshot. Tango's blur is on Pro. Guidie handles it differently: it never captures what you type (fields are masked before each screenshot), skips password fields, and flags emails, phone numbers and keys it sees elsewhere on the page.

Guidie's limits, honestly

Guidie has no in-app guidance, no desktop capture and no PDF export yet (it's in development). It is a good fit when you want a clean written guide and a video for free; it is not a replacement for Tango's guidance features.

Questions people ask

What can I use when Tango's free plan runs out?

Guidie is free during its beta with no guide limit. Dubble's free plan also allows unlimited guides. Or upgrade to Tango Pro for unlimited workflows.

Does any Tango alternative make videos?

Guidie renders a narrated MP4 from each recording. Dubble Pro records screen and audio. iorad can export tutorials as MP4.

Is there a Tango alternative with in-app guidance?

Scribe offers on-screen walkthroughs, and iorad has a Live Mode on Enterprise. Guidie does not guide users inside the live app.
